The APIPURA hotel rinner: Within the beehive
At the APIPURA hote rinner guests can now follow the goings-on in the beehive. A swarm of bees has moved into an old tree trunk near the apitherapy apiary.
What activities are the bees engaged in within the hive, and how are they preparing for winter? Even experienced beekeepers may not be aware. The APIPURA hotel now has a night vision camera installed, which allows the guests and the hotel team to follow the live goings-on.
It becomes especially exciting when outside temperatures sink in the winter. Here, the bees make use of the so-called 'penguin principle', i.e., the bees that come from outside warm up in the core of the colony and the warmed-up bees then fly outside. Thus, they are capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -40 degrees.
