Klosterhof
Description
Nestled among the peaks of the Bavarian Alps, the Klosterhof Alpine Hideaway & Spa is secluded on a sunny plateau. This exclusive location amidst nature creates a true oasis of peace and serenity, where guests' well-being is paramount.
The Färber couple has transformed the old 16th-century monastery farm into a stylish, luxurious hotel that offers its guests Alpine luxury and peaceful getaways. Thanks to the sustainably oriented renovation, the history of the old manor has remained alive and is reflected in numerous details of the furnishings and architecture. Traditional features, interior made of natural materials such as apple tree and Swiss stone pine wood and state-of-the-art technology as well as methods blend to create the overall image of the Klosterhof as a wellness and health hotel.
The 65 individual rooms boast panoramic views of the natural surroundings. Art steles provide an exciting eye-catcher in the open, light-filled rooms. Several room categories offer a private spa area with infrared sauna and whirlpool with mountain views.
Panoramic mountain views can also be enjoyed by guests from the heated outdoor pool or Finnish sauna. These are both part of the 1500-square-meter spa area, which also features an indoor pool with fireplace and a brine bath, the Alpen-Soledom. At the attached Artemacur health center, hotel guests are advised by doctors. The emphasis is on new diagnosis and therapy procedures.
Whether one decides for the health or wellness offers, for extensive hikes or ski-tours, the vacation days in the Klosterhof Alpine Hideaway & Spa are rounded off by an all-around carefree package, with which pleasure lovers will come fully at their expense. In the GenussArt restaurant, Chef Sascha Förster and his team create mouth-watering menus, and there's hardly a better place for a welcome drink or a relaxing evening with live music than the stylish BarBarossa.
A stay at the Klosterhof is an experience that delights all the senses.
By the way: The Klosterhof team is happy to assist in organizing special surprises for anniversaries, honeymoons, baby moons or marriage proposals.

Then head to the remote sauna garden, which provides the ideal conclusion to a day of wellness with relaxation areas and natural showers.
Artemacur Health Center at the Klosterhof
In addition to classic wellness, the Klosterhof offers the option of profound, medical care. Hotelier Dr. Andreas Färber has established the Artemacur Health Center in an adjacent building and provides his guests with new possibilities for diagnostics and therapy. As a laureate of the German Lung Foundation in the context of infectious respiratory diseases, he is skilled at teaching people the importance of a healthy lifestyle and breaking old habits. The focus is not just on diagnostics, but on a holistic concept that especially considers the psyche and nutrition.
History & Philosophy
The history of the Klosterhof dates back to the 16th century and can still be felt in many corners and is highly valued today. As the former farm of the Augustinian monastery of St. Zeno, the Klostergut boasts powerful roots. Especially, the knowledge about the old remedies of the monks represents a connection to today’s health center.
The Klosterhof was one of the first official hospitality businesses in the Berchtesgaden region when it received its liquor license in 1860. An aerial tramway carried guests from the valley directly to the farm. During later years, the buildings were used first as refugee accommodation during World War II and finally as a boarding school.
By 1987 it had passed into the ownership of the Lederer family, and within a year, the former boarding school had become a small hotel with 14 rooms and a guest lounge. The hotel prospered. In 2011, it was taken over by the Färber couple and was initially continued according to the same concept. The major conversion to today’s wellness hotel took place three years later. Extensive renovation work was carried out on the old building. The new annex harmoniously blends in with the old Klosterhof and the surrounding nature. The new opening as a luxurious Alpine Hideaway & Spa took place in July 2016 using a unique concept that combines the history of the former monastery economy and modern health treatments with innovative, sustainable technology and architecture.
The Klosterhof provides a space to recharge your batteries, while building on connectivity, progress, and growth. Following the motto “Find inspiration, live health and feel individuality”, the place that centuries ago already enabled the Augustinian monks to live an almost self-sufficient life became a refuge of peace and relaxation.
The enthusiasm for the Klosterhof and the attention to the smallest detail constantly gives birth to new and at times unconventional ideas to preserve the beauty and originality of the place.

The sustainability strategy of the Wellnesshotel Klosterhof in Bayerisch Gmain follows ecological, economic and social aspects. Daily actions strive to holistically integrate sustainability in all processes. That includes employees, guests and suppliers, all of whom are inspired and guided to be more sustainable.
In 2022, the Klosterhof has been officially awarded the “EU Ecolabel” after a long certification process, and it is the first hotel in Germany with this certification, which is recognized throughout the EU.
During the construction process, ecological aspects were a central demand.
To integrate the building well into nature, it was clad almost entirely in larch shingles, with the roof completely covered in greenery
The planning placed emphasis on energy efficiency right from the start, for instance through high-efficiency insulation and high-quality triple glazing.
The drinking water from Reichenhall possesses a unique, healthy mineral composition.
A flow limiter and further technological equipment together with a future-oriented pool technology minimizes water consumption in the Klosterhof to a minimum.
To optimize the energy efficiency, energy for the heat supply of the facility will also be used for the production of electricity by a cogeneration plant
Power supply with gas according to the requirements of the municipality and the sole protection area
Exhaust heat generated by cold storage rooms, exhaust air, etc. is recycled and returned to the house through heat recovery. Modern load management allows for optimal distribution.
Equipped with appliances of the highest energy efficiency class
Modern LED technology
Regular monitoring and improvement – more efficiency and savings.
The focus is on waste avoidance
Even during the pandemic, disposable packaging was avoided and individual portions, such as the homemade jams, were served in jars
Housekeeping switched to own-brand products in dispensers
Regular staff training, continuous optimization of waste avoidance and a joint recycling concept with suppliers guarantee sustainable implementation.
Special personnel concept, the hotel was awarded with the Hospitality Award, among others.
The 100 employees contribute an important part to the implementation of the sustainable concept
Emphasis on long-term employment and personal development
No seasonal workers
The Hotel disposes of its own beehives, a herb garden and fruit trees (apples, pears, cherries).
Wherever possible, products are sourced regionally
Seasonal menus
Milk & dairy products from the Berchtesgadener Land
Freeland eggs from the Mühlhauser organic farm
Fish specialties from the Karlsteiner fish farm Bad Reichenhall

Homemade “Nice-cream” instead of industrial ice cream
In 2021, the Klosterhof developed a new e-mobility concept
Charge columns and vehicles and bicycles with electric motors for guests and employees
Fleet converted to electric vehicles
Since autumn 2021, on request, guests can rent E- Smarts (forfour or fortwo convertible) for day trips in an uncomplicated and environmentally friendly way

The EU Ecolabel covers all member states of the European Union, as well as Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. This label was launched in 1992 and since then, has developed into a reference for sustainably minded consumers.
An extract of important criteria for the award of the EU Ecolabel:
