“The distinctive Ritten feeling, you find it in the Sea, in the forest, in the garden and all around, but also on the balcony, in the room … yes, even in the bathroom! We brought nature indoors: Smell of hay, wood feeling. Lake views, sunny windows. Seawater in our BergSea products.” Hotel Weihrerhof

History & Philosophy

In 1962 Johann Pichler bought the Unterweihrerhof and left it as an inheritance to his son Friedl and his wife Zilli. The two realized their long cherished dream of owning their inn here, on the shores of Lake Wolfsgrubner. It all started in 1967 with 11 rooms, the first ones on the Ritten with private showers. In that year, Friedl also single-handedly excavated the marsh outside the hotel, thus laying the foundation for the idyllic breakfast island. With the opening of the Rittnerstrasse, the new mountain railroad to the Rittner Horn and the good connection from Oberbozen with the cable car to Bolzano, an increasing number of guests were staying at the Weihrerhof.

  • Environment
  • Local characteristics and features such as the Rittner roof are integral parts of the architecture
  • Local materials such as silver quartzite from the Pfitsch Valley, Rittner porphyry, Sarner porphyry, Trentino porphyry, local wood (Swiss stone pine, larch, spruce, chestnut) were used. The outside area was left as natural as possible and was planted to match the location.
  • The names of the rooms originate in old settlements and historical places of the Räter (Celts) and these were implemented also in the concept with corresponding signs, fireplaces
  • All statutory requirements for barrier-free accessibility are observed. The Weihrerhof is a member of South Tyrol for all

  • Most of the energy is generated by a CHP (combined heat and power). The PV system, which will be installed in 2022, and the 120 KW storage system, including intelligent software, will enable the company to be as energy self-sufficient as possible.
  • The reduction of emissions is continuously pursued.
  • In 2021: CO² emissions per guest night approx. 25 kilograms. Emissions are reduced 100% by certified projects of My Climate The Weihrerhof is climate neutral since 2020.

  • To use as little water as possible and gradually clean without detergents at least as far as possible, all rooms and public areas are cleaned with dry steam from Re-Think. So why do we continue to use plastic for food packaging, for example, for vacuum packing? Because it solves an important problem: More than 30% of the edible parts of produced food are lost or wasted along the value chain. With packaging, the hotel can minimize food waste and keep food fresher”
  • The kitchen tries processing all foods whenever possible, any waste that still occurs is sent to the biogas plant in Lana
  • If possible, food and products are produced in-house, thus minimizing waste and maximizing the value chain.
