History and philosophy

A’ Cràpa Mangia – all is well!

Vacationing in Italy, visiting an old mansion in a fabulous location high above the sea with an unparalleled view of the Gulf of Salerno – It was love at first sight.

Back in 1998, current owners acquired the abandoned estate near the village of Castellabate and, thanks to the help of their Italian architect friend Gianfranco di Mauro, restored it in a sustainable way, while respecting the traditional and regional farming heritage.

Green Initiatives

In designing the apartments, special attention has been paid to the protection of the historic architectural structures of the 17th century. The natural stone, wood, iron & stucco are the ancient Cilentan features that lend their charm to the rooms until today.

  • Water is drawn from the apartments’ own deep well, which is tested regularly by a local laboratory. But there is also a connection to the municipal water supply
  • There are backup tanks with a water treatment plant. This is composed of two elements: In the first step, water flows through a strainer that filters out all the impurities. It then flows though a second filter, designed to keep the lime content as low as possible. Three times a week, the filter is cleaned and rinsed with salt. The salt-flushed waters do not flow into the ground, but are discharged into the sewage system.
