ACCIUGHE AL VERDE STORY
There are legends and historical realities on the origin of the Anchovy trade in Val Maira.
The legend says that in the past centuries there was a trade of hair with Genoa to make wigs, another characteristic itinerant Valmairese trade: that of the “Caves of Elva”. A man had traded his product for barrels of anchovies which he had then resold on his return journey, making an excellent profit; so he decided to continue with this activity.
