Schwarzwald Panorama: Biokids

The Working Group on Sustainability

The "SchwaPa BIO Kids" project started on October 10, 2019, and once a month the children of the third and fourth grades meet at the Hotel SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA, spread over an entire school year. There they learn about sustainability, environment, nutrition, waste, food production and processing, biodiversity and animal husbandry. A total of 15 elementary school kids take part in this project in a working group (AG) of the Falkensteinschule. The children are already well prepared for the project, as the Falkenstein School already offers the nutritional driving licence and the school fruit programme.

A network of specialists supports the project

The topics of this AG are compiled by a network of specialists. For example, students of the Heilbronn University prepare certain topics for the children and educators and the hotel team plan and design the topics and their layout. Farmers, associations, climate protection companies, nutritionists, etiquette experts, beekeepers and waste management companies also participate in the organization of the events. At the end of the project the children even receive a certificate given to them by the Heilbronn University. They receive the certificate for passing the exam at the end of the project and for successful participation.

So there have already been project days on various topics. During the first meeting the children learned more about climate, garbage and food at different stations and even received an environmental detection card.

At the next meeting the children went into the kitchen. Lessons on hygiene, preparing food as well as a communal meal and washing up were the topics that afternoon.

The SchwaPa BIO Kids are already looking forward to the next project days at the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA in Bad Herrenalb.
