Inkaterra Asociación: “Ocean and Forest” at Cabo Blanco
The Inkaterra Asociación (ITA) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to scientific research to preserve nature. In order to secure biodiversity, ITA is committed to the sustainable use of natural resources, education, information and monitoring of local biodiversity.
One of the most recent projects involves the small fishing village of Cabo Blanco in northern Peru and serves as a role model: 'Ocean & Forest' aims to help protect and preserve the offshore marine ecosystem while contributing to the social and economic development of the village.
One specific measure is the protection of the endangered green turtle, for which ITA works with the Waitt Foundation. For one thing, there is a daily control of the stock, secondly, a campaign was started to raise awareness for the turtle among the local population.
The projects of ITA broadly relate to three areas: the protection of the forest, promoting sustainable agriculture and developing protection strategies through observations of the ecosystems.
ITA projects, for example, take place in the Tambopata region in the rainforest, where the Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica and Inkaterra Guides Field Station are located, as well as in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) and on the grounds of Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.
Further information can be found on the website of Inkaterra Asociación.
The 'Ocean & Forest' project targets the goal of restoring biodiversity, supporting the sustainable management of commercial fish species through new fishery methods and reducing illegal fishing in spawning grounds.
