Biodiversity PEEK Project

Education and empowering of local kids

The ultimate goal of this program is to educate and empower children and communities so that they will become informed citizens who have the awareness, skills, and independent capacity to act as stewards in the protection of their own local wildlife.

The Biodiversity PEEK program along with assistance from Six Senses Con Dao and other local businesses is helping the children of Con Dao to become self-driven and able to sustain themselves and the surrounding biodiversity on which their future depend.

Children who go into the field are taught how to swim, snorkel, and trek with minimal environmental impact. All are armed with camera's and encouraged to upload photo's of flora and fauna that then gives them access to scientists around the world who can help them to identify and learn about the wildlife surrounding them.

“PEEK Biodiversity Project's educational philosophy is summarized by Senegalese conservationist Baba Dioum: In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.”

Green Travel Experiences and Green Projects

The main concern at the start of the project was how to deal with the site’s pristine and unique natural environment without destroying the essence of the landscape while creating a real identity for the resort. This implied that ecology and sustainability issues were foremost in the design inception and guided the architectural works to ensure that wasteful energy consumption
was avoided and disturbances to the natural environment were minimal—ultimately the resort exceeded the standards of Green Globe 21 certification.
