Animal & Plant Protection
Discover many kinds of animals and plants at the Tongsai Bay. There is plenty of space to share with other fellow refugees and it is safe there. There is a huge variety of food for the animals.
In July 2012, the resort’s Animal & Nature Protection Group with the help of other staff planted a fruit tree orchard in a vacant area of the hotel.
In total 50 trees were planted, including 35 coconuts, mango, jack fruit, tamarind, and mahok-kanee. A gardener regularly checks on the health of the trees. Unfortunately, not all the plantings survived and in August 2012 some trees were replaced.
Twenty-six coconut, 18 mango, and 12 jack fruits were replaced. The hope is that all the tree will survive and absorb some of the resort’s carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, Tongsai Bay is conducting a pilot project to create an all natural plant fertilizer.
To create the fertilizer organic hydroponic seaweed, food scraps, and brown sugar are mixed and left to ferment for one month. The result is an all natural fertilizer and reduced food waste!
