As of November 2019, Biohotel Sturm in the German region Rhön is awarded as carbon neutral hotel. For a long time already, the hotel reduces its carbon emissions, they now compensate the remaining emissions in collaboration with Fokus-Zukunft GmbH & Co KG. with projects in Uruguay and Ruanda.

This makes Biohotel Sturm one of the first hotels in the industry voluntarily offsetting carbon emissions according to the Kyoto-Protocol. Since November 2019, all stays at the hotel are climate-neutral without extra costs.

The Guanaré Forest Plantations Projekt in Uruguay comprises of over 21,298 ha property former used for cattle breeding. The land is now being used for Eucalyptus plantations. The wood serves as storage for great amounts of carbon dioxide and can additionally be used for veneer and sawing works. All practices are compatible with the FSC standard for sustainable forestry.

The GS cookstoves project in Ruanda is especially used in rural areas where people use inefficient old stoves with wood and charcoal. With the new cookstoves deforestation in these areas shall be reduced while the health of locals is supported at the same time due to a smaller risk for respiratory diseases.
