Lightyears ahead

Always an avid leader when it comes to being green and sustainable, The Tongsai Bay have yet another campaign to add to their efforts of cleaning up the planet.

At the end of June the hotel started a cooperation with the Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management (HSM) Chulalongkorn University (Chula Loves the Earth) in a campaign called “Recycle Electronic Waste”.

“Recycle Electronic Waste” is an annual campaign, that runs from November to October and this is its fourth year.

At Tongsai Bay, the Green Project team have set up a donation box located outside the Human Resource office and invite the staff to donate their old mobile devices, used batteries & accessories (chargers, earplugs) for recycled e-waste. (Yes, they do accept all brands and all models).

Why recycle e-waste?

Toxic chemicals: E-waste often contains toxic chemicals that will harm the environment if incinerated or placed in a landfill. These chemicals include lead, mercury, and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Chemicals that are used to make these products have been linked to cancer clusters.

Reusable pieces: Even if a product does not work, there could be some parts that can be removed and reused. For example, floppy disks, speaker cords or keyboards can often be reused, even if the computer can not.

What is accept:
– Electronic waste type – Cell phones
– Mouse Keyboards and other electronic devices
– Audio video equipment
– personal electronic devices
– Monitors and Laptops

Once a month the Green Project team will collect electronic waste, sort it, make a record and send everything to HSM, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.

This waste goes to the Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management (HSM). They will collect and sent everything on to TES-AMM Company, a company that organizes Electronic Waste Recycling.

All in all, a fabulous effort!
