Two nominations for Green Pearls hotels at the GreenTec Awards 2015!

We are over the moon at Green Pearls today! Not one, but two of our hotels have been nominated for the prestigious GreenTec Award in the tourism category: Pimalai Resort & Spa in Krabi, Thailand and Puri Dajuma Cottages & Spa in Bali, Indonesia.

This news didn’t surprise us. The two eco-friendly hotels have long impressed Green Pearls with their efforts in sustainable tourism practices. They have committed themselves to running every aspect of their business as sustainably as possible. In addition to coming up with initiatives to preserve their environment for the next generation, these green hotels also educate and include the local community in all of their sustainable activities.

The philosophy at Puri Dajuma Cottages & Spa is that it is the hotel’s as well as the guest’s responsibility to protect the environment. They do so while respecting the traditions of Bali, its culture and religion. Puri Dajuma is a family run business. Their corporate social responsibility strategy is enforced through employing as many locals as possible at the resort; an impressive 90% of staff is from Bali. The Puri Dajuma  offers its employees social security and health insurance, which is not usually the norm in Bali. To build the resort they used natural and local materials, used water is treated in septic tanks made of eco ceramics, and the hotel serves organic fruits and vegetables and locally caught fish.

The Pimalai Resort & Spa on Ko Lanta in the Krabi province is an off the beaten track paradise in an otherwise rather well developed destination. Their philosophy is that peace with nature creates peace within the resort. This mission has been respected in all aspects of the running of this green hotel. When building, maintaining and running the eco-friendly resort, complementing nature as opposed to competing with it is the overriding pursuit. Acting in a sustainable manner is paramount: The Resort operates a garbage station to handle all solid waste materials and educates the local community and its staff on eco-friendly waste management. At Pimalai Resort only non-motorized water sports are offered to preserve marine life, the beach is cleaned daily and initiatives like the release and breeding of clown fish to create a fish reserve are only a few examples of the many eco-friendly activities the resort enforces.

No hotel can operate without any impact on the environment. Green Pearls’ mission is to find hotels and destinations around the world whose goal it is to reduce their environmental impact to a minimum, and to promote them in the global tourism market. We are supported in this endeavor by organizations like GreenTec. They have created an effective platform to position best sustainability practices in the media spotlight. With fresh, innovative ideas, a well thought through marketing strategy and the support of numerous representatives from the sectors of economy, politics and entertainment, they have created Europe’s biggest eco award.
