"The Modern Gentleman" visits The Tongsai Bay in Koh Samui, Thailand
Travel journalist and blogger Oliver Polenz from “The Modern Gentleman” visited Green Pearls hotel The Tongsai Bay on Koh Samui in Thailand. He loved it! But see for yourself:
When booking our holiday, we explicitly looked for a resort that would allow us to enjoy Koh Samui’s beautiful landscape. We were also on the lookout for a sustainable holiday. However, more than anything, we were yearning for an amazing place to relax for a couple of days.
It might sound like a cliché, but this is how it was: the lush vegetation and the atmosphere of this resort immediately blew our minds. The view of the sea, the palm trees, and the birds chirping… – this is exactly how we imagined a green holiday paradise.
Just a short stroll through the resort was enough to take away all our daily hassles. We especially appreciated that the natural surroundings were left as they were, and not artificially changed. It seemed as if the plants benefited from the same ease and freedom as we did on our holiday.
Our small home was also surrounded by trees. (Editor’s note: no trees were cut down to build this resort). We immediately fell in love with the hammock and the lounge bed on our terrace. Even though there was a lot of comfort offered by the luxurious interiors, nothing beats relaxing the midst of nature under blue skies. In our opinion, this is real luxury.
The Thai cuisine has captivated us with its exotic flavors, great curries and many of its traditional dishes. And then sometimes you just need something simple to be happy. The PO-LAD beachfront bar had seduced us many times with their sinfully scrumptious snacks. Like with the superb Wagyu Cheeseburger with fries, mayonnaise and ketchup – a simple feast in paradise.
Food from chef Chom’s Thai restaurant was no less delicious. We particularly enjoyed the premium coffee selection and the Thai menu in the evenings. We dare say that even better than the culinary pampering in the restaurant was their unique and welcoming atmosphere.
Here, it was nature who stole the the limelight again. There was no pomp or glamour. Simply this very unobtrusive style conveying such a relaxed atmosphere that made us feel so at ease. It was easy to lean back and enjoy all aspects of our holiday, from the pleasant spa, to the fantastic landscape and the fabulous culinary treats. The Tongsai Bay enables a slow and sustainable form of tourism which makes this exclusive and idle lounging under palm trees even more special. We would like to thank the wonderfully attentive staff, we will definitely come back!
