Sustainable hospitality since 65 years

The HUBERTUS Alpin Lodge & Spa is located in the contemplative 280-souls village of Balderschwang in the Allgäu region. The well-known ringing of the Allgäu cow bells and the typical architecture of the region welcomes us on terrace of the alpine wellness oasis. Arriving for a short trip to unwind, refuelling the body with new energy and recharging the batteries. Dogs are also welcome at the hotel.
Ayurvedic kitchen and regional products
We are warmly welcomed by Karl Traubel, who manages the hotel together with his family. A table had been set for us in “Traubel’s Garden”. “You can enjoy a late breakfast”, the waitress explains and takes care of our beverage requests, wearing a traditional “Dirndl”. The breakfast is a great selection of regional products. The menu gives the information from where the products are originated: fresh juices, different cereals, cheese, butter and yoghurt made by the resident farmer and meat, mainly from HUBERTUS’ own production. The highlights are tasty Ayurvedic Waffles. Family Traubel developed the recipe for the dough, like so many other recipes for the hotel. Thus, enjoyment and health as well as the Ayurvedic kitchen and regional products find their way to the creatively arranged tasty buffet and front-cooking stations.
The concept is visible in the entire house and the Alpine health & spa with its sauna, Zen garden and outdoor pool. We immediately feel comfortable and relaxed. Everyday there is another sauna program. Those who want to retreat from sauna sessions and pool can lay down on various lounges and hanging chairs or enjoy a sensitive foot massage in the barefoot park “Via Sensus”.
Easy, historical and appealing flair
Originally, Karl Traubel’s parents founded the house as a butcher’s shop and grocery store 65 years ago after the Second World War. Today fur and wood, native materials, old relics and the historical building characterize the hotel’s interior. With its rustic chic and exciting mixture of styles, textiles, patterns, native and historical furniture the HUBERTUS is truly unique. After a Yoga session, we enjoy dinner at the Teestube. A popular gathering point to have coffee or digestive is the hotel bar.
Digital Detox is worth it
Two years ago the hotel was completely refurbished and now fulfills the criteria of sustainable hotels. Those who leave their smartphones at the reception desk for one or several nights, receive a piece of cheese for the journey home. This trend is called “digital detox”: You switch off your smartphone, laptop and tablet and have a break of (social) media. Especially when it comes to traveling, deceleration is guaranteed.
