Must-haves for your sustainable summer vacation

Traveling keeps on being popular: exploring different countries, getting in touch with locals, experiencing a new culture and being inspired by the beauty of nature motivates us to pack our bags and leave home for the next adventure. But as we all love traveling, we need to take care of the environment while preserving it for future generations. You’ve already chosen a sustainable destination? Perfect! The second step is to re-think what to pack for your next journey. We introduce you to some environmental-friendly must-have accessories that need to find their way into your green luggage.

Recycled but stylish

There are several enterprises that produce eco-friendly alternatives to the classic suitcase. One example is the German label Milchmeer Ecobags that turns old cement bags and fish food sacks into water resistant travel bags. The Italian manufacturer Roncanto produces a green luggage collection named „box“: The suitcases are made out of completely recyclable plastic Polypropylen, while still sticking to the stylish Italian design and low weight.

Sustainable companion for a hike

You are planning a hiking tour and still looking for a backpack that is not only stylish but also sustainable? The German label Melawear produces your fair-trade and GOTS certified companion for the next trip: Ansvar I and Ansvar II. These backpacks are inspired by Scandinavian design using organic cotton canvas, vegetable-tanned leather and buckles free from chrome and nickel. Emil die Flasche offers colorful, reusable and eco-friendly glass bottles to use wherever you go.

Hiking sounds great, have you booked your accommodation already? The HUBERTUS Alpin Lodge & Spa, located in the Bavarian Alps, impresses with conscious architecture, recyclable furniture and an overall sustainable concept, while offering stunning views over the mountains and pristine nature.

Green beach accessories

Looking forward to spending your next break swimming, kayaking or simply relaxing? The Strandhaus Boutique Resort & Spa, located at the Spree river, is your perfect base, also offering green wellness and supporting local goods and traditions. Make sure to take a jar of the so called “Spreewaldgurken” (special cucumbers) with you before you leave!

The founders of VanDeBord were wondering why old equipment from airplanes has not been recycled and reused – in 2008 the first item had been produced. The beach bag “Bag to Life“ is made out of former life vests. Spending the day outside? Don’t forget to bring sunglasses and sunblock! Sunscreen that is sustainable, free of chemical additives and vegan can be found in almost every drugstore. Cool sunglasses made of natural material like wood or slate are produced by the trendy label Kerbholz.

Diver’s paradise

The five star diving resort Zeavola is located on Kho Phi Phi, Thailand, and is highly active in protecting and preserving corals. Built in the style of a traditional village, it invites guests to make an authentic experience while enjoying the flora and fauna of the island and exploring the colorful underwater world.

To spend the day swimming and relaxing at the beach, sustainable swimwear is not to be missed. The label Mymarini designs „ethical swimwear made in Hamburg“: All their swimsuits are OEKO-TEX® certified and – thanks to double processing – can be worn on both sides. Even better: The label developed a procedure to color black fabric with only half the amount of water that is usually needed.
