Summer, sun, beach and … lake!
We all love the beach but must it really be a beach at the sea? We don’t think so and show you five examples where vacation at the lake are at least as beautiful as a holiday at the sea!
Strandhaus Boutique Resort & Spa, Germany
Our first stop is in Germany at the beautiful Spree, where the Strandhaus Boutique Resort & Spa is located in only 100 meters distance from the Spree lagoon with its sandy beach. Almost every room offers an impressive view over lush green forests and – of course – the Spree river. One of the many highlights is a canoe or boat tour: boating through mangrove-like nature almost feels exotic while in the next moment you pass „normal“ houses. Besides even the mail is delivered by boat!
Amaya Lake, Sri Lanka
Next stop is to Sri Lanka, more precisely to Dambulla: there, pretty much in the centre of the island, surrounded by forests and located directly at the Kandalama reservoir, you will find the Amaya Lake Hotel. Get to know old traditions still being celebrated and also explore Sri Lankas mystical tales during a visit of the Polonnaruwa ruins, in the hidden cave temple with 153 Buddha statues in Dambulla or at the impressive lion mountain Sigiriya.

In German the word „Genießer“ means connoisseur and the hotel Die Forelle is really just the place to be. In the family-lead hotel the clock is always striking a little bit slower – a rhythm we all like to adapt to when being on vacation. This applies also for a visit in the restaurant serving fresh and healthy ingredients of the region, harvested in the own garden and used to prepare typical dishes, sometimes mixed with an international flair. Good weather invites you to explore the highest located swimming lake of the Alps. In the midst of these high mountains you feel like being in a Norwegian fjord with its crystal clear water offering the possibility to swim, cliff jump and waterski.
CGH Earth Coconut Lagoon, India
There’s only one way to get to the next resort and that is by boat. Located directly at the Vembanad Lake in the region of Kerala, in the South of India you’ll find the old (some are more than 150 years old) and lovely refurbished mansions of Coconut Lagoon. As soon as the boat arrives and you set foot on the ground, the exceptional experience begins: presentations of traditional arts and dances like the Kathakali, learning how to play the tabla or a visit in the Ayurveda centre. On the whole site you’ll find numerous canals – to get your tea served by someone standing on a canoe is not uncommon here!
Hotel Speicher am Ziegelsee Schwerin, Germany
The Schweriner Lakes are sometimes called „El Dorado for water sports enthusiasts“. In the middle of this stunning scenery lies the Hotel Speicher, a former granary and today listed historic building that was rebuilt into a 4 star hotel. The eleven surrounding lakes offer many possibilities for water sports: sailing, fishing, swimming, water skiing or boat tours to mention just a few. To start your day right, just jump into the lake from the hotel’s own jetty and enjoy the evening on the terrace next to the Ziegelsee watching the sun going down.
