Cycling around the world – part 2

It’s time for the second part of our “Cycling around the world” series. Today we show you the best spots for bike tours in Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Germany and Peru!

Rivers, castles and vineyards in Hohenlohe, Germany

One of the most popular bike routes, the Kocher-Jagst-bike route, can be found in the Jagst valley in the region Hohenlohe in Germany. Starting near the spring of the two rivers Kocher and Jagst, the 332 km long route follows the rivers until they meet near Friedrichshall. You will bike through varied nature, apart from streets with only a few inclines you pass castles and fortresses as well as picturesque vineyards. Due to many shortcuts you can also shorten your two-rivers-tour and – for the really motivated ones – there is the possibility to extend the trip due to the connection to the Taubertalradweg. The Mawell Resort serves as starting point as well as for relaxation after an exhausting day of biking: a special highlight is the Spa up in 200 meters height. The tower with sauna and infinity-forest-pool offers an amazing view over the Jagsttal.

Cycling the heart of Sri Lanka

When thinking about Sri Lanka cycling is probably what comes to your mind, right? Getting to know the country by bike offers a new view on the island. Riding your bike on side roads and well developed forest paths you will experience diversified nature with its tropical forests, tea plantations and rice fields. Don’t forget to visit the mystical sites Polonnaruwa and the lions rock Sigiriya! The Amaya Lake Resort is located in Dambulla, in the middle of Sri Lankas cultural triangle and therefor perfect to explore the surrounding nature. The bordering Kandalama lake and the resort’s own swimming pool and Spa invite you to occasionally spend a relaxing rest day.

Velo tours in Switzerland

Switzerland is a dream come true for everyone who loves cycling – or how you call it here: Velo riding! A huge variety of tours, for example by Veloland Schweiz, offer the possibility to explore the country by bike. Starting in Montreux the lake route leads past the Thunersee, the Brienzersee, the Vierwaldstättersee and many more until it ends at Rorschach at the Lake Constance where the wonderful hotel Schloss Wartegg is located: Undertake several day trips or start multi-day biking tours from here. The hotel rents bicycles and e-bikes. If you follow the Herzroute from Lausanne to Rorschach (or the other way round) you even pass some battery replacement stations – perfect for all e-bike-fans. Whether you like challenging mountain tours or rather slower bike tours along the lake – there is something for everyone here!

Mountain bike adventure in Peru

Looking for a real adventure? Why not trying out a mountain bike tour in the Peruvian Andes! One example is the mountain bike tour from Ollantaytambo to Ábra Málaga: riding uphill for two hours might just be a little bit exhausting, but it’s definitely worth it! You’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view and afterwards you can enjoy riding the whole way back down. El Albergue Ollayntaytambo also offers shorter and less exhausting bike tours starting directly at the hotel and leading to the surrounding nature and villages like Paucarbamba, Pachar, Cachicate or Chillca. One of the most recommended tours is the one to the Indigenous community of Huilloc in the Patacancha Valley and then back down to Ollantaytambo – a two hours ride and suitable for all levels of bikers.
