Rail Romance: Traveling by train

There are various reasons for taking the train – no traffic jams, diverse landscapes, time to read. Some speak of Slow Travel, the idea of experiencing a trip more consciously. Usually, you only reach long haul destinations by plane, yet it’s easy traveling short distances by train. In terms of environmental protection, there’s hardly a better alternative to train rides since flying or car driving cause significantly more CO2 emissions than the rail traffic. Several organizations offer tools for calculating your individually caused emissions; you can even compensate it, with AtmosFair for instance. Besides wonderful accommodations, some hotels offer special benefits for tourists traveling by train!

Across the Alps

Train journeys are good for your conscience, and can be joyful — for example, when crossing the Alps. You won’t regret leaving your car at home when looking out of the window 😉 Experience such an “Alpine panorama ride” on your way to the Valsana Hotel & Apartments in Swiss Arosa. The train Arosabahn passes by breathtaking stages such as the Langwieser Viaduct (you should only look out the window when you’re not scared of heights)! or the green slopes between Chur and Landwies. The hotel will take you to the train station upon your arrival and departure, inform you about the public transportation, and, on top, rents out bikes for free – enjoy exploring the striking landscape!

Recreation meets environmental protection

You can find another benefit at the vegan hotel LA VIMEA in South Tyrol: When arriving by train, you get a discount on your stay! The incentive is motivated by protecting the environment and is in line with the eco-hotel’s philosophy. Needless to say, the hotel takes you from and to the train station for free. That way, you can not only recharge at the spa-hotel LA VIMEA, but also preserve the environment with your stay. 😉

Save the parking fees

When traveling the city, arriving by train is the easiest way. In most cities, the public transportation is well developed, so you can start exploring the city easily! On top, you save the parking fees. You can reach our green city pearls conveniently by train: check in at the hotel Milano Scala in the fashion capital Milan, find the Parisienne oasis Hôtel Le Pavillon just a stone’s throw away from the Eiffel Tower, and the Green City Hotel Vauban is located few minutes off Freiburg’s City centre.

Check out good (and scenic) rail connections to your next vacation destination and travel relaxed and eco-friendly 😉
