This year, it is to go one step further. The Wall of Change is to become real and adorn the hotel lobby of the Creativhotel. For this purpose, wooden sheets will be labeled with the initiatives using a laser printer and hung up. Even more information can then be accessed on the website.

The Wall of Change is intended to arouse curiosity and at the same time inspire and motivate private individuals, hotel guests and entrepreneurs to tackle sustainable strategies. An initiative that has now been awarded the ADAC's special sustainability prize.

A great idea that should find many imitators. At least that's what Creativhotel Luise hopes.

The Biohotel Grafenast impresses with its natural tranquility. A true refuge in the mountains, from which guests can go exploring and hiking in nature or simply enjoy some relaxing time out. The now more literally excellent ambience makes it possible.

The Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie is an economic model that innovatively and sustainably works for the common good instead of focusing on the pursuit of profit. The goal is an ethical economic culture. Also in the Naturresort Schindelbruch in the Harz mountains one is pleased about a special honor. The RELAX Guide awarded 17 points and three lilies, placing the hotel among the top 20 wellness hotels in Germany. Showcase enterprise Naturresort Gerbehof 

The Naturresort Gerbehof is also one of them. The business includes the Biohotel and an organic farm, managed by Ursula and Bruno Wagner together with their children Ralph, Priska and Christel. In the mid-90s, they converted the former Aussiedlerhof to fruit farming, and since 2016, apples and pears have been organically grown on 20 hectares here. Particularly proud is the family to be climate-positive and energy self-sufficient with the entire business. Moreover, the company is certified Gemeinwohlökonomie.

What activities are the bees engaged in within the hive, and how are they preparing for winter? Even experienced beekeepers may not be aware. The APIPURA hotel now has a night vision camera installed, which allows the guests and the hotel team to follow the live goings-on.

 It becomes especially exciting when outside temperatures sink in the winter. Here, the bees make use of the so-called 'penguin principle', i.e., the bees that come from outside warm up in the core of the colony and the warmed-up bees then fly outside. Thus, they are capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -40 degrees.

The European Sustainability Week takes place from September 20 to 26. Organizations, initiatives and companies open their doors and gates and offer programs, guided tours and workshops around sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals of the Agenda 2030.

With the Selfness Center, the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA makes it clear that wellness is not enough for them. With "Selfness", they focus on their guests as human beings and their mindful approach to themselves. In the new center, this succeeds even better.

The ADLER Lodge RITTEN wants to offer exactly this to its guests this year and invites to the first ADLER hiking half marathon. The trail runs for 21 kilometers through chestnut groves in the Eisack Valley, past historic farms and through a diverse natural and cultural landscape.

In between the traditional Buschenschänken offer numerous opportunities to stop and discover the South Tyrolean cuisine. Törggelen is the name of the tradition of tasting young wine, must and roasted chestnuts. In addition, there are of course traditional dishes such as Knödeltris or Schüttelbrot.

On Sunday, October 23, selected works will be staged in the lobby. Guests can then enjoy an exclusive 4-course meal and meet the artist in conversation. On the following day, those interested can take part in a workshop on spatula techniques, and in the evening, guests embark on an art journey with Oliver Klam, including live painting and wine tasting.

The entire event can be booked as an art package directly from Hotel Das Rübezahl. Interested parties from the surrounding area also have the option of attending only the vernissage and dinner.

According to Förtsch the idea was immediately met with enthusiastic approval by the residents. Many senior citizens, but also students, populate the district and are happy about the shorter distances for self-supply with organic, fairly produced and regional food.

The construction of the vending machine, including the security technology and the weatherproof wooden shed, was funded by the city of Erlangen and supported by numerous local sponsors. The daily stocking, maintenance and running costs such as electricity are covered by the Creativhotel Luise.

The Berghotel Rehlegg also knows this and offers its guests well-filled picnic baskets for their extended bicycle or hiking tour. These range from a simple, hearty "Brotzeit" to a gourmet picnic basket with champagne and cheese platter. And the matching hiking tour comes with it on top.

Applications are open to any creative who is up for a month of southern Italian flair, sea views and living on a historic estate between January and March 2023. There are workplaces and also the transfer from the airport or train station is secured. The Paradiso is back! On June 17, the Paradiso Pure.Living on the Alpe di Siusi in South Tyrol starts the summer season after a short break. The first vegetarian hotel in the Dolomites reopens its doors to all guests who want to discover the impressive expanse of the Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi) and enjoy an overnight stay in a green and holistic place of well-being.

Each day, Paola has devised a new menu for the guests of the restaurant. This means that each season there were over 100 appetizers, 100 soups, 100 first courses, 100 second courses and 100 different desserts! She has also managed to use mostly seasonal and organic raw materials, to upgrade the collaboration with local producers, to produce less waste and to implement plastic-free packaging. Memorable are her diverse winter creations for each type of cabbage, fennel, and other typical green leaf vegetables. Fighting food waste, she has perfected the reinvention of new dishes, among them soups with cabbage or white long radishes that have been particularly popular. She discovered the products of local suppliers enthusiastically. For instance, 'The Gold of Capriana' made a triumphant entry into the kitchen. Valuable saffron that is produced in the valley by two young and energetic women, Chiara and Michela Corradi. This is a robust saffron, full of decisive pigments and with a very intense aroma. 

With passion and creativity, the Eco Park Hotel Azalea goes on. New chef Pravas is working already on brand-new flavor and color combinations. Vegan fusion cuisine at its best! 

 

In the category "Historic Hotel Sustainability" the green castle hotel at Lake Constance reaches the 1st place.

An expert jury, many tourist and culture enthusiasts as well as lovers of history voted for their favorite hotels nominated until the end of February 2022. This year''s eighth edition Historic Hotels of Europe Awards included ten categories to vote for, among them two new ones. The Historic Hotel Sustainability Award and the New Entry Historic Hotel Award.

This year' s competition included historic hotels from Ireland, Wales, Norway, Slovenia, Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Spain, Greece, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among other countries. Historic Hotels of Europe includes about 500 hotels throughout Europe.

All rooms have a bathroom, a terrace with a view of the hotel's own natural swimming pond and the hotel garden and offer plenty of space and, above all, plenty of peace and quiet for up to 3 people in a room. The host family Schulze Dieckhoff decided against a TV in the room – because they want to support the digital detox and deceleration of their guests.

Right next to the main building of the lodge, small fields and herb gardens are currently being planted on an area of around 4,000 square meters. With the next harvest, summer wheat, potatoes, various vegetables, berries, and herbs will come directly from own cultivation into the kitchen, or rather onto the guests' plates.

Christian Fink and his girlfriend Johanna, the operators of the Viehweiderhof adjacent to the lodge, are responsible for the implementation. The two are very pleased to be able to realise a sustainable garden for the resort and have clear ideas: “We will cultivate the area with high diversity and natural cultivation methods. Mixed cultures ensure that the plants develop splendidly and even protect each other from pests. Flowers support the quality of the soil and attract bees and other pollinators.”

With a pond, landscaped pathways, benches and secluded nooks, the cottage garden is designed to serve as a relaxing oasis for lodge guests as well. 

In the category “Responsible Business Model & Partnership”, the hotel in Bad Herrenalb is right at the top of the podium in TourCert's fairwärts Good Practice competition. The SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA receives the 1st place for the creation of the CSR – position “Development of sustainable awareness”.

Since 2018, Stephanie Schießl is responsible for this position and takes care of the sustainable development of the hotel. The industry's only full-time position combines active environmental protection with social commitment and entrepreneurial thinking. Stephanie Schießl raises sustainable awareness within the staff, among guests and all partners, and integrates sustainability along the entire value chain of the hotel operation. For the last year she has also been a guest lecturer in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) at DHBW Ravensburg.

The SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA's successful sustainability initiatives include: a significant reduction in its carbon footprint per overnight stay, Bio-Gold certification, the development of an in-house waste ABC, a biodiverse snack garden, upcycling workshops and numerous collaborations such as NABU's cork collection campaign and Sinnlicht's wax collection point. Just a few weeks ago, the team around managing director Stephan Bode announced the successful Green Sign certification.

‘Roof top feel well’ under the stars

The SAND invested into new technology and launched the digital check-in. Thus, guests can prepare for their check-in in peace and quiet from home and start their vacation at the reception without a madness of paperwork. The SAND continuously aims to advance in its sustainability efforts and is committed to this at a European level as well. Its participation in the Tourban Acceleration Program  is part of this initiative. This project looks at food waste and food supply chains in hotel and restaurant operations. Thanks to the hard-working staff, the Rehlegg shines and sparkles in pre-Christmas splendor. The fireplace crackles and the whole hotel shines in candlelight.
